INTRODUCTION

Since this month began, we have been looking at the 5 purposes of the New Testament Church. The final one we are considering this morning is evangelism and I wish to look at it from “behind the curtains”

A. Evangelism

* It is the communication of the Gospel
* It is given to men to reach men.
* In this regard, God has made provisions for all to be involved.
* In the history of the church, one of the greatest. Evangelist of all time was the late Charlse G. Finney of the Second Spiritual Awakening in the USA between 1790-1840.
* He reached his then known world for the Lord.
* There were 3 parties to his evangelistic efforts viz

– The financial supporters.
– Father Nash
– The Evangelist and his assistants.

* All parties needed each other to do the work.
* See the flow – Rom.10:13-15

B. Being Sent?

Notice:
Jesus was –

a. Anointed
b. Sent

1. 1st Receive – Dechomai – Grk
Take with the hand, give access, give friendship, and acceptance.
2. 2nd Receive – Self motivated taking of what is one’s own, carry away, take what is offered.

Pls. note God has placed His power in His sent ones to profit and bless those that identify and support them – It is called Reward.

REWARD

God is a rewarder
• Gen. 15:1- Abraham
• Matt. 6:6 – Sermon on the mount
• Heb. 11:6
• Rev. 22:12

His reward for the Gospel is called a Prophet’s Reward.

What is a Prophet Reward
a. Prosperity – 2chron. 20:20
b. Support for Ease – Jer. 51:20, Eccl. 10:10 Prov. 27:17, II Kings 13:14-17
c. Deliverance and Preservation – Hosea 12:13
d. Deal with the day of Adversity-Prov.17:17, II Kings 17:8-24, II Kings 4:8-37
