THE ROD

A) THE ROD

Different words are used in the Hebrew language to describe this, but for our purpose, the Hebrew word of choice is: shebet i.e a shepherd’s stick, pole or staff. It was a tool that represented at least 7 things to the shepherd or Jew.

  • A tool of his occupation – Mic.7:14 (NIV)
  • A tool for his identity – Gen.38:25
  • A tool for his security (offence & defense) and family records –Gen.38:18,Num.21:18, Judges 5:14
  • A tool for the support of life – Exo.21:19; Zech.8:4
  • A tool for his ministry – Jer.33:13, Eze.20:37
  • A tool for correction – Psm.23:4; 2Sam.7:14
  • A token for his authority –Exo.4:17

Please NOTE:

i. The rod was the extension of the shepherd’s hand.
ii. The rod in your hand has the ability to become anything required of it to get you through to your destiny e.g
– Serpent – Exo.7:9-12
– Blood – Exo.7:19-21
– Frogs – Exo.8:5
– Lice –Exo.8:16,19
– Thunder, hail, fire etc – Exo.9:23-25
– An instrument of wealth transfer –Gen.30:37-39,41;
iii. Most shepherd rods were made of Almond wood branches because:
– Hardness and durability
– The almond tree is the first fruit tree to blossom in the season of blossoming in the year (Jan/Feb.) – Speaks of speed certainly of accomplishment of Divine will in your life – Jer.1:11-12.

ACTIVATING WHAT IS IN THE ROD

Read: Exo.4:17 and Num.17:2
Note:

i. The Rod – i.e the instrument of your deliverance is already in your hands, acknowledge and begin to use it. It may look little, insufficient or insignificant, but allow God with it; if not utilized it may be lost. –Philem.1:6; Matth.25:24-30

ii. The realization of the full potential of what’s in our hands will only take place at the point of handing over to God e.g.
· Shamgar ox-goad Judg.3:31;5:8;
· Gideon lamps, pitchers & trumpets Judge 7
· Samson Jaw-bone of an Ass. Judge 15:15
· David a sling, 5-stones and a Rod-Isam.17:40-50
· The widow 2mites Matth.12:42-44
· The Lad 5 loaves 2 fishes Matth.14:16-19
· Mary of Bethany A box of precious ointment Matth.26:7-13
· Dorcas needle and a thread Acts 9:36-39

iii. What is in your hand? God will not use what you have until you have given it to Him – Exo.4:3; John.6:9
– See, what you have is what He uses but what is used is that which is released.
– The 12 elders in Submitting their rods, actually submitted their:
* Time -i.e above 12 hours of waiting
* Energy
* Possession – The rods were initially theirs
* Ability – The rod represented their power to do.
