A QUICK WORK

For a quick work to be effected God had to use 2 action words i.e
– choice
– make

(A) CHOICE
i. Hebrew: Bachar – i.e Singled out from others to some honorable service or position or relationship
Greek: Ekloge – i.e To be picked out.
Choice always confers a privilege of:
– Purpose
– Function
– Position
– Benefit/responsibility/ advantage
For example:
· Men choosing wives – Gen.6:2; Prov.18:22
· Lot choosing the cities of the plain -Gen13:11
· Choice of soldiers for war by kings – Exo.17:9,Josh.8:3, ISam.13:2
· God choosing Israel to be His people –Neh.9:7
· God’s choice of Cyrus to rebuild his temple – Isa.45:1-4

Please Note:
‚ Choice has nothing to do with the merit or demerits of the subject but on Divine knowledge and purpose – Rom.9:11-16; Titus 3:5-8
‚ In Christ Jesus, You have already been chosen by God – Col.1:12-14
‚ In Gen.29:34 –Levi means ATTACHED or JOINED. Therefore – the choice of the tribe of Levi as priest was to show that such a position is not based on personal ability or merit but in being attached to a life source i.e God himself.
‚ Choice creates or gives room to Relationship without which power and authority cannot flow e.g
– Elijah/Elisha – Mantle worked – 2Kings 2:11-14
– Elisha/ Gehasi – Mantle never worked -2Kings 4:31
Why? No Relationship
– Jesus/ Disciples –Mk.3:13-15

(B) MAKE
Hebrew: Shakah – i.e To allay, dispel, remove, put an end to, settle once and for all.
– It speaks of the display of power to enforce a position.

Shakah always has to do with:
‚ Divine sovereignty
‚ Divine pleasure
‚ His Timing
‚ His Mercy

(1) God’s Sovereignty
· God’s power to make decision and effect His will in which ever way
He so pleases e.g
– His power to do and undo – Dan.2:20-22
– His ability to declare a thing before its coming to pass especially when there is nothing on ground to give credence to or suggest its ever happening – Gen.15
– His ability to declare the end from the beginning
– His ability to keep/watch over whatever He institutes

(2) His pleasure
– Miracle done on purpose to get Him some Glory e.g Parting the Red sea –Exo.14:8-31
– Elijah outrunning Ahab -1King18:44-46
– Blind man from birth – John 9:1-4
– Lazarus – John 11
– Lu.12:32; Rom.9:14-15
– He takes pleasure in our joy and obedience – John.16:24

(3) His Timing
– He is Lord of the time and seasons – Dan.2:21
– IISam.9 – within 24 hours He changed the lot of Mephibosheph
– In Less then 10mins. Infirmity and destiny tied down for 38years was turned loosed – John.5:1-9
– He is Lord over time and can do as He pleases e.g He is the only one that can make a dead stick- bud, blossom and become fruitful with matured fruits in less than 12hours
The buds – speaks of a guaranteed or promised future
The blossoms – speaks of maturity and honour – Psm.144:12-14
The Almonds – speaks of fruit, blessings to the larger community through a yielded or submissive vessel.
Keeping in the Ark – What He is able to produce, His able to preserve!

(4) His Mercy
God has all power, He also possesses all discretion and He exercises them. E.g in granting answers to the prayers of man
– Solomon – Ikings 3:9; IIChron.7:14
– The church – Acts 12
– The thief on the cross – Lu.23:39-43
