TOPIC: The Blessing

TEXT: Gen.1:28; 9:1, 7; Prov.10:22

INTRODUCTION – What is the Blessing?

The Baker’s Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology, defines BLESSING as: An endowed power for prosperity and success; a sign or release of God’s favour to make for prosperity and success.
Therefore, that house, car, child, money etc are not the blessing but the result of the blessing in action. The blessing is the power to function or achieve objectives or acquire what is due.

1) Nature of the Blessing
It is a 5-dimensional release made by God viz:
a. Be Fruitful
· Make fruitful
· Cause to become fruitful

b. Multiply
· To increase greatly and exceedingly

c. Replenish
· Fill everywhere
· Be satisfied
· Don’t fail, accomplish whatever is started. No unfinished task

d. Subdue
· Overcome
· Make to serve by force if necessary

e. Dominion
· Subjugate, rule, reign
· Prevail over
2) Be Fruitful- Focus shall be on this
Hebrew –Parah – ‘Make fruitful’ i.e. To enforce, compel, manufacture or construct a thing to ensure success or accomplishment of objectives irrespective of opposition. Enough power is released to silence every opposition – Psm 66:3

3) The Release of Power for Fruitfulness

God’s power is released in response to:
· Receipt of God’s word the release of faith
· The incubating power of the Holy Spirit
· Service and alms giving
· Heartfelt prayers
· The anointing

a. The Word – Heb.11:11
Ø Manoah’s wife and Zechariah –Angels brought word
Ø Hannah and The Shunamite woman- Word brought by servants of God
The word has creative powers: Gen 1:1-3, Psm33:9; 107:20, John 1:3, 1 Thess. 2:13, Heb.1:2-3.

b. The Holy Spirit –Rom.1:4; 8:11
Ø The Earth – Gen.1:1-3
Ø Aaron’s Rod – Num 17:7-11
Ø The Wilderness – Isa. 32:15
Ø Peter -Lu.22:34, 55-62;24: 49; Acts 2:14-37

c. Service and Alms giving
Ø Zechariah – Lu.1:7-13
Ø Peter – Lu.5:1-7
Ø Cornelius – Acts 10:3-5

d. Prayers
Ø The husband factor
· Abraham – Gen 15:1-5
· Isaac – Gen 25:20-21 (ampl)

e. The Anointing

Hinderances
a. Time
One may begin to loose hope because one feels time is gone because of:
Ø Age or How long one has been waiting we quote –Prov.13:12 but remember:
i. Ithes.5:24 and Icor.10:13
ii. Abraham/Sarach; Elkanah/Hannah; Zechariah/Elizabeth
b. Circumtance of life
– Isaac/Rebccah – Gen.15:20-21
– Joseph – sold slavery –Gen.41:52
c. Past Experiences or failed attempts
Elijah – widows son prayed through –Ikings17:20-22
– Rain to come – Prayed 7Times – Iking18:41-46

d. Spiritual factors
– God related to Israel as Father and Husband
– Get into warfare with this mindset
Ø As father – He has demanded for yours fruithfulness- Therefore, stand on: Isa.10:27 and Col.1:13-14
Ø As husband, He is Jealous I can’t share you with another stand on: Isa.54:5,11-14, Gal.6:7
