HONOUR – The Spirit of Wisdom (continued)

Text: Deut.34:9 & Prov.4:7-8

Zech 4: 6-7

6 So he answered and said to me:

“This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:

‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts. 7 ‘Who are you, O great

mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!

2. He gave him direction and strategy:

 Josh.2&6 –the battle for Jericho

 Josh 8 – the fall of Ai

 Josh 10- the 5 kings of the Amorites and the standing still on the sun.

 Psm.23 shows us clearly that the greatest need of a sheep is direction, if it gets it, all

other needs will be met.

 In ministry, Apostle Paul was successful because of this Acts 16:9-10 ,

9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him,

saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” 10 Now after he had seen the vision, immediately

we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to

them.

3. Life is full of opportunities, challenges, problems etc, what enables right decisions,

brings solutions, right answers and promotion is the Spirit of wisdom.

 Daniel in Babylon

Dan. 5:8-12

8 Now all the king’s wise men came, but they could not read the writing, or make known to the

king its interpretation. 9 Then King Belshazzar was greatly troubled, his countenance was

changed, and his lords were astonished. 10 The queen, because of the words of the king and his

lords, came to the banquet hall. The queen spoke, saying, “O king, live forever! Do not let

your thoughts trouble you, nor let your countenance change. 11 There is a man in your kingdom

in whom is the Spirit of the Holy God. And in the days of your father, light and understanding

and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him; and King Nebuchadnezzar your father

— your father the king — made him chief of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and

soothsayers. 12 Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams,

solving riddles, and explaining enigmas were found in this Daniel, whom the king named

Belteshazzar, now let Daniel be called, and he will give the interpretation.”

Pls note here – v12 that the makeup of the Spirit of Wisdom manifested in Daniel were:

· The display of excellence

· Capacity to learn and acquire knowledge

· Ability to apply the knowledge through clear understanding to correctly interpret

patterns and trends

· Solution to the challenge at hand

4) In management of men and materials effectively and efficiently.

Apostle Peter

 Proper interpretation of scriptures to set things in order to facilitate the coming of The

Holy Spirit. Acts 1:15-17, 20-22.

 Avoid distraction in leading the church- Acts 6:1-6. The result of this could be seen

immediately in v7: Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied

greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.

 In working and successfully coordinating a very heterogeneous team to decide on a matter

that would have a very serious impact on the Christian faith and its spread- Acts 15

5) The Spirit of Wisdom is most often manifested in our lives as we talk and work. What are you

engaged in now?

Joseph in Egypt

 He gives creative solutions to complex problems that will evidence His supernatural

intervention and help.

Gen. 41:1, 8, 37-41

Then it came to pass, at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh had a dream; and behold, he

stood by the river.

8 Now it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for

all the magicians of Egypt and all its wise men. And Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there

was no one who could interpret them for Pharaoh.

37 So the advice was good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his servants. 38 And

Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of

God?” 39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Inasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is no one

as discerning and wise as you. 40 You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled

according to your word; only in regard to the throne will I be greater than you.” 41 And

Pharaoh said to Joseph, “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”

6) Obedience to God is the first manifestation of wisdom.

 The 1st written Proverb of King Solomon was: Prov.1:10

10 My son, if sinners entice you,

Do not consent.

 Earlier He had said: 1 Sam 15:22

Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,

And to heed than the fat of rams.

7)The Spirit of Wisdom is available to those willing to meet God’s conditions for His bestowal.

Proverbs 2:1-6

My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, 2 So that you incline

your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; 3 Yes, if you cry out for

discernment,

And lift up your voice for understanding, 4 If you seek her as silver, And search for her as

for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge

of God.

6 For the Lord gives wisdom;

Getting Wisdom

In the bible, we see that the Spirit of wisdom can enter a life in a number of ways. Some are:

· Thefear of the Lord.

Proverbs 1:7

7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,But fools despise wisdom and instruction.

In this verse, the words, “knowledge,” “wisdom” and “discipline” are all being used as

synonyms, to describe the same thing.
The fear of the Lord has two sides:

 One side is to hate evil, to hate sin, and to avoid sin at all cost.

 The other side is delight in doing God’s will. Psalm 112:2 “Blessed is the man who fears the

LORD, who finds great delight in his commands.”

To fear God means to view God with deep and healthy respect as shown in one’s hatred of evil,

and love for what God wants.

· Passionate Pursuit of Wisdom

Prov. 18:1

A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment.
(a)To passionately pursue this kind of wisdom we start by:

Boldly asking God for wisdom.

 By Prayers – Solomon 1Kings 3:8-12

 In faith – James 1:5.

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without

reproach, and it will be given to him.

(b)By reading and constant meditation on the Word, Josh. 1: 8

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and

night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will

make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Especially the wisdom literature of the Bible.
(c) By developing the art of observation. Prov.24:30-34

I went by the field of the lazy man, And by the vineyard of the man devoid of understanding; 31

And there it was, all overgrown with thorns; Its surface was covered with nettles; Its stone

wall was broken down. 32 When I saw it, I considered it well; I looked on it and received

instruction: 33 A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest; 34 So

shall your poverty come like a prowler, And your need like an armed man.
(d) By reading. Acts 26:24;

24 Now as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are beside

yourself! Much learning is driving you mad!”

2Tim.4:13

13 Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come — and the books, especially

the parchments.

(e) Have a godly mentor 1Cor.11:1

Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.

(f) Build a life plan that is consistent with God’s plan. Exo.28:3; 31:2-3,6
3 So you shall speak to all who are gifted artisans, whom I have filled with the spirit of

wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments, to consecrate him, that he may minister to Me as

priest.

31:2-3,6

Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the

son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. 3 And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom,

in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

6 “And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan;

and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I

have commanded you:

· By impartation

 Moses encountered The Spirit of Wisdom when he encountered God in the wilderness and on his

other encounters with God- Exo. Chapts.3,33 & 34.

 Joshua got his when Moses laid his hands on him. Deut.34: 9.

9 Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on

him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Today, we have come for this service, be ready to have an encounter and be impacted by the

Spirit of Wisdom unto honour. Be ready to lay down your rods, your mantles, your tokens and

your cups.
