HONOUR – The Spirit of Wisdom

INTRODUCTION

Deut 34:9

9 Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on

him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Prov 4:7-8

7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get

understanding. 8 Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you

embrace her.

INTRO

The Holy Spirit of God has always been The Spirit of Wisdom in His people.
(1) The American Heritage Dictionary defines wisdom as: The ability to discern or judge what is

true, right, or lasting; insight. Common sense; good judgment. This implies that:

wisdom has @ least 3 implications viz:

· Moral implications–discerning what’s right and good.

· Intellectual implications–discerning what’s true.

· Time implications –discerning what will pass the test of time ie lasting.

Wisdom, therefore, can then be said to be the God given ability to perceive the true nature of

a matter and to what is true and right combined with good judgment.

Biblical

Hebrew word for wisdom is Hochma,

Refers to some kind of skill or ability. It was originally used to described the work of

weavers who weave the elaborate garments of Aaron, the high priest. Since the high priest and

his clothing typified the ultimate high priest, Jesus Christ, it was imperative that the

weavers follow God’s exact specifications for the priests’ garments.

Exodus 28:3
3 And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of

wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in

the priest’s office.” (KJV)

The weavers’ ability to follow God’s design for manufacturing the garments was labeled

“wisdom.”

As a result, the Israelites equated wisdom with a skill for living, and so for them, wisdom has

since been defined as “the skill to live life according to God’s plan.”

Wisdom is what we need to fulfill God’s purpose for your life. God has a design (as an

architect) for each of us. We need wisdom to fulfill (build as a brickler) that design. Prov.

3:19-20

9 The Lord by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding He established the heavens; 20 By His

knowledge the depths were broken up, And clouds drop down the dew.

Prov. 14:1

The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.

WHO IS THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM

The Holy Spirit is the embodiment of Godly wisdom.

When He specially manifests to give Wisdom to deal with issues, to such a person, He has

manifested as the Spirit of Wisdom. Intimacy with Him will make the wisdom of God available to

us.

Isa. 11:2

The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him – the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit

of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord.

Why the Spirit of Wisdom

Read Prov.4: 7-9

7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get

understanding. 8 Exalt her, and she will promote you; She will bring you honor, when you

embrace her. 9 She will place on your head an ornament of grace; A crown of glory she will

deliver to you.”

Illustration: Automaker Henry Ford asked electrical genius Charlie Steinmetz to build the

generators for his factory. One day the generators ground to a halt, and the repairmen couldn’t

find the problem. So Ford called Steinmetz, who tinkered with the machines for a few hours and

then threw the switch. The generators whirred to life–but Ford got a bill for $10,000 from

Steinmetz. Flabbergasted, the rather tightfisted car maker inquired why the bill was so high.

Steinmetz’s reply: For tinkering with the generators, $10. For knowing where to tinker, $9,990.

Ford paid the bill.

1) The Spirit of Wisdom on Joshua manifested as a supernatural ability and skill to lead to the

promise land in spite of all obstacles on the way. By that Spirit God fulfilled His promise to

Israel. This year, by the working of that Spirit which you will contact afresh today, you will get to your promise land in your field of endeavor IJN.
