Encountering the Spirit – The Place of Desire

INTRODUCTION

A) DESIRE MEANS:

· To want – Psm.84:1-3

· To long for – Psm.63:1-2,5-8

· To pant after – Psm.42:1-3

· To yearn for -Jacob/Rachel; Hannah/ A male child

· To be passionate about – Psm.132:1-5

B) FOUR (4) THINGS ABOUT DESIRE

(i) There cannot be an encounter with the Holy Spirit without a heartfelt desire for Him.

– Moses – Exo.33:18

– David – Psm.42:1, 51:11-12

– Habakkuk – Hab.2:1

– The Disciples – Lu.11:1

Nothing meaningful gets achieved in life without a desire or hunger for it.

(ii) Lack of desire is the main reason a lot of people are stagnated in life. – Prov.18:1-2, Jer.33:3; Mk.11:24.

(iii) Desire is of the heart. Therefore for your desire to have effect the state of your heart must be:

· Serviceable – Psm.89:20

· Pure -IIChor.16:9

· Desperate -IIChor.26:5, Psm.63:1-2, Lu.21:34

· Humble -Psm.138:6

(iv) Desire is a Major key or Instrument in God’s hands to open up and deliver your destiny to you.

· David – IChro.13:3

· Uzziah – IIChro.26:5

· Apostle Paul -Phil.3:12-14, 1Cor.15:9-10

· Jesus Christ – Heb.1:9, 10:5-7

C) When there is Desire:

i. No price is too much to pay

· Moses – Exo.24:2,12-18

· Jesus -Mk.1:12-13

· Paul -ICor.15:9-10

ii. No distance is too long to reach

· Moses -Exo.33:12-13

· David -Psm.42:1

iii. No barrier is too strong to scale- IISam.23:15-17.

D) The Result of Desire

§ Release of His fullness –Psm.16:11, John 1:16

§ Release of power that meets and produces all we require. – Acts 4:31-37.

§ We become more like Him- I John 3:2

§ Desire will enable you to place yourself under some spiritual disciplines – 1John 3:3

E) Requirement for Effective Desire

§ Only all of your heart can attract God –Psm.27:8;63:1,8, Jer.29:13

§ Your heart determines what you get – Acts 8:21

CONCLUSION

The heart of the matter, is a matter of the heart
