THE YEAR OF THE SPIRIT – WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT

INTRODUCTION

The Holy Spirit is a Person. He is not a force, an influence or an “it”, He is the third member of the trinity with distinct personality traits. Every believer, should know the reality and power of the Holy Spirit and allow Him take over their lives. If He is not in us, it will be very difficult for us to live victorious Christian lives, know God’s strength and presence as well as understand God’s word in depth and revelations.

Some Personal Traits of The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit has will i.e He makes decisions – 1Cor.12:11 “But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”
He has intellect – Neh.9:20 “You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, And did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, And gave them water for their thirst.”

Rom.8:27 “Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
i.e he teaches, directs, searches and possess the ability to know things.

He has accurate knowledge and knows things, so we can depend on Him to teach – 1Cor.2:9-12

“9 But as it is written:”Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.”

He has the ability to do or cause changes i.e power Acts 1:8; “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” He changed Peter, Paul e.t.c
He has capacity for love – Rom.5:5 “Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” Rom.15:30 “ Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me, “

He can be grieved – Eph.4:30 “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”

He speaks -Rev.2:7″He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” Gal.4:6 “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Rom.8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” John 15:26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning. “

He is Eternal – Heb.9:14
He is Omnipresent – Psm.139:7-10
He is Omnipotent – Lu.1:35
He is Omniscient – 1Cor.2:10,11, John 14:26;16:12-13
He is Holy – Lu.11:13
He is Truth – 1John 5:6
He is Benevolent or a generous – Neh.9:20
He shares communion with men – 2Cor.13:14

HE DOES THINGS THAT ONLY GOD CAN DO
Creation Job 33:4, Psm.104:30
Salvation 1Cor.6:11, Eph.1:13
Giving life John 6:63
He is the author of the New birth John3:5-6
He inspired men to write the bible -2Pet.1:21
Convinces men of righteousness and of judgment to come. John 16:8-11

CONCLUSION

The Father has told us how to live; the son has modeled that life to us and the Holy spirit has come to empower us to live that life. What are you doing with Him?
