The Report of the Lord focused passage text: Isaiah 52:1-15
What is the Report Of the Lord?
The phrase “the report of the Lord” refers to the divine message that God has consistently declared from the beginning of creation, through the prophets, and ultimately through Christ. Let us examine this profound message step by step:
1st Report: God Has Visited His People
God has visited His people, made strength available to them, and clothed them with garments of splendor.
Isaiah 52:1 — Awake, awake, O Zion, clothe yourself with strength. Put on your garments of splendor, O Jerusalem, the holy city. The uncircumcised and defiled will not enter you again.
- Garment of splendor also appears in:
Revelation 19:7-9 — Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear. (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)
2nd Report: No More Oppression
Isaiah 52:3-6 —
- You were sold for nothing, and without money, you will be redeemed.
- At first, my people went down to Egypt… lately, Assyria has oppressed them.
- My people have been taken away for nothing… my name is constantly blasphemed.
- Therefore, my people will know my name… Yes, it is I.
This declaration reveals God’s heart for justice and His desire to redeem His people from all forms of bondage. The report of the Lord is not only a message of salvation but also one of freedom from systemic oppression, spiritual captivity, and shame.
3rd Report: The Good News is Proclaimed
Salvation is preached, and the God of Zion reigns.
Isaiah 52:7-10 —
- How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news… who proclaim salvation… who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
- The LORD has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem.
- All the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God.
This portion emphasizes the universal scope of God’s plan. The proclamation of salvation is central to the report of the Lord, underscoring its urgency and eternal significance. God blesses those who carry this message, and He invites those who hear it into His redemptive plan
The Origin of the Reports
From Creation: The Serpent’s Defeat
Genesis 3:14-15 — He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.
This was the first prophetic announcement of the coming Savior, revealing that God had already devised a plan of redemption. Even in the midst of humanity’s fall, God spoke hope through the report of the Lord.
To Abraham: The Promise Given
- Genesis 12:1-3 — I will make you into a great nation… all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.
- Genesis 15:4-6 — Look up at the heavens… so shall your offspring be.
- Genesis 15:4-6 — Look up at the heavens… so shall your offspring be.
Genesis 17:4-8, 19-21; 21:12 — Additional affirmations.
To Isaac: The Promise Reaffirmed
Genesis 26:4-5 — Through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed.
To Jacob: The Promise Prophesied
Genesis 49:10-12 — The scepter will not depart from Judah… until he comes to whom it belongs…
Through Moses: A Future Prophet
Deuteronomy 18:15-19 — I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers…
Through David: The Eternal Throne
2 Samuel 7:11-16 — I will raise up your offspring… I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
This progression shows that the report of the Lord is consistent throughout generations. Each covenant, prophecy, and promise pointed to Christ, the fulfillment of God’s divine plan for mankind.
The Price of the Report
From the Earth to the Cross
God came in the flesh:
Isaiah 53:2 — He grew up before him like a tender shoot…
Philippians 2:6-7 — Made himself nothing… being made in human likeness.
Despised and rejected:
John 1:11 — He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
John 18:37-40 — Give us Barabbas!
He carried our sorrows and bore our griefs:
- Smitten by God and afflicted
- Wounded for our transgressions
- Bruised for our iniquities
- Chastised for our peace
- Stripped for our healing
- He died and was buried to taste death for all men
Isaiah 53:2b-12; John 19:1-18 — confirm this suffering in detail.
This section reminds us that the report of the Lord came at a great cost. Jesus paid the ultimate price through His sacrifice to bring salvation to humanity.
But the Grave Could Not Hold Him
Matthew 28:1-4 — There was a violent earthquake… the angel rolled back the stone…
- The guards trembled and became like dead men.
This glorious resurrection demonstrates that the report is not one of defeat, but of eternal victory. The report of the Lord culminates in resurrection power and triumphant glory.
The Fulfillment of the Report
The Mystery of Christ Revealed
Ephesians 3:4-6 — The Gentiles are heirs together with Israel… sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus.
Moreover, this inclusion of all people groups reveals that the report has always been global in scope. The gospel is for everyone who believes.
We Shall Be Changed
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 — The dead in Christ will rise first… caught up together… and so we will be with the Lord forever.
Additionally, 1 John 3:1-3 — Reinforces the promise of transformation and purity.
We Are the Company of the Lord
Jude 3, 14-15 — The Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones…
Death is Swallowed Up in Victory
1 Corinthians 15:51-56 — The trumpet will sound… the dead will be raised… Death has been swallowed up in victory.
Satan is Destroyed
Hebrews 2:14-15 — By his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death — that is, the devil.
Furthermore, these declarations reveal the ongoing fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan. The Lord reveals the report not only through past and present events but also through future promises yet to come.
The Grand Finale: The Great Throng
Revelation 7:1-4; 9-17 —
- A great multitude that no one could count… wearing white robes… Salvation belongs to our God!
- Never again will they hunger… God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
Additionally, this final scene portrays the eternal celebration of those who have believed the report. Furthermore, God gathers them from every nation, clothes them in righteousness, and they worship Him forever.
Living by the Report of the Lord
So, what does the report of the Lord mean for us today? It is a call to believe God’s promises, receive His salvation, and proclaim His truth to the world. It means aligning our hearts with His eternal plan and living with the hope of His coming kingdom.
Thus, by trusting in His report, we reject the false reports of fear, doubt, and defeat. Instead, we walk in faith, empowered by grace, and assured of victory.
Isaiah 53:1 — Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
In other words:
God has declared the report—now we must believe it, live by it, and share it with the world.
Thus, with all its history, prophecy, fulfillment, and future glory, God has given the report of the Lord as the most powerful message to mankind—a message of redemption, transformation, and eternal hope. Let us therefore rise with confidence and declare: We believe the report of the Lord!
