Seven Killers of Grace – a message on grace passage text: Mathew 6:25-34, Psalm 127: 1-2, Timothy 1:7, Proverb 11:2, James 4:6
In the past, we talked about how to contact or connect to Grace. We mention five secrets of how to contact this grace as:
1) Giving
2) Revelation
3) Asking
4) Confession (positive)
5) Excellence
The question is after contacting Grace, is it possible to loose Grace. The truth is that grace can be lost. There are many examples in the bible of people who operated in the grace and favour of God and lost it after some time.
The seven killers of Grace are:
(1) Ignorance (2) Fear (3) Jealousy (4) Ingratitude (5) Pride (6) Disobedience (7) Anger
1. IGNORANCE Hosea 4:6
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”.
It takes revelation to contact Grace but it takes knowledge to remain in grace. For you not to loose this grace, you must remain informed. Information is what will put you in constant touch with your destiny.
A lot of people have lost the grace of God because they refuse to seek knowledge.
2. FEAR: 2 Timothy 1:7
“ For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” Somebody said FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real.
A lot of Christians have failed to enter into the purpose of God for their lives because of fear.
In order to overcome fear, a believer must:
(i) Ask God to remove it
(ii) Confess the word of God
(iii) Be attentive to the Holy Spirit and obey His guidance.
3. JEALOUSY: Hebrew 2:15
“ Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled”
One of the easiest ways to loose the Grace of God is to be jealous of another’s person’s success or breakthrough.
As Christians, if we want to overcome Jealousy, we must be ready to wait for our own season. Ecl. 3:1. Patience is a powerful cure for Jealousy. We must be ready to walk by faith and put our confidence in God.
In fact, true success is learning to celebrate those for whom it is happening and in the process enter in your own day of Joy, favour and grace.
4. INGRATITUDE: Philippians 4:6
“Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know into God”
If you cannot appreciate God for your current level, you cannot move to the next level. A lot of people have lost the Grace of God because of frequent complaints instead of thanksgiving”
We should cultivate the habit of thanksgiving always for us to continue to operate in the manifold grace of God.
5. DISOBEDIENCE; 1 Samuel 15:11, 23, Deut. 28: 1-3
Saul lost the Grace of God and he was rejected because of his disobedience. Adam and Eve lost the Garden of Eden due to disobedience.
There are so many examples in the bible of people who would have been carriers of Grace but lost it due to disobedience.
Brethren, if you want to remain connected to grace this year, trust and obey him always.
6. PRIDE Proverbs 16:18
“ Pride goes before destruction and an haughty spirit before a fall”. Proverb 16:18. “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble”. James 4:6 Pride is probably the major reason for a lack of favour or grace with God and therefore lack of success in ministry.
SIGNS OF PRIDE:
1) Lack of submissive attitude
2) Being argumentative.
3) Always want to be heard than hearing others.
4) Not easily take to correction
5) Needing to proclaim your titles or degrees.
7. ANGER Ephesians 4:26
“ Be ye angry, and sin not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath”
“Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry; for anger resteth in the bosom of fools”. Ecl. 7:9
Anger can cause one to loose the grace of God just as it happened in the life of Cain in Gen: 4: 3-5.
To overcome anger this year you must:
i Cultivate the habit of forgiveness
ii Run away from things that are likely to provoke you to anger
CONCLUSION – MESSAGE ON GRACE
In this year of manifold grace, we must make a conscious effort to avoid all these seven killers of grace for us to enter and remain in the Grace of God.
