RAISING SONS

TEXT: MATTHEW16:6-18; ISAIAH.9:6

INTRODUCTION

WHO IS A SON?
The word son amongst others implies the following:

Cannot be raised unless he has been born
A relationship i.e a belonging
An admittance

RAISE
To raise also implies 3 things viz:

To lift or move to a higher level
To increase the amount or quantity of a thing
To cause to produce

Pls note that it is essentially a next level, continuous growth & development process towards a target which is: ROM.8:29 and EPH.4:14-15
Therefore, the ultimate of sonship is the CHARACTER OF CHRIST i.e CHRISTLIKENESS in all things. SOME SIGNS OF CHRISTLIKENESS

Membership of his family

Following Christ is not just a matter of believing but also includes belonging. I Pet.1:3, Eph.2:19.

Model of His character

Personalized goal of discipleship i.e growing up like Christ in character IPet.2:21, ITim.4:12.

Minister of His grace

The use of our gifts and talents to benefit others IPet.4:10, Eph.2:10.

Messenger of His love

This is evangelism personalize. Acts 20:24, IICor.5:19-20.

Magnifier of His name

This is our personal responsibility to worship God. Exo.20:3, Psm.34:3.
We are created to worship. If we refuse to worship God, we’ll worship another.
HABITS OF SONS

Habits that create an atmosphere commence and continue in the growth journey. They are those that influence the use of:
Time – Quiet time with God – Mk.1:35
Money – Regular tithes and offering ICor.16:2
Relationship – Fellowship with believer in small groups Heb.10:25, Acts.2:41-47
Decision for personal commitment to God and a willingness to learn of Him and work out the commitment. ICor.15:8-10, Acts 20:24, Matt.11:28-29.
