Personal Soul Winning

INTRODUCTION

Three things are absolutely essential to progress and development in the Christian Life after one has accepted Christ.
Prayer and fasting
Bible Study
Personal Soul Winning/Evangelism/Witnessing.

Personal soul winning has been relegated to the background by many Christians these days. Some of the reasons why few Christians seek to become personal soul winners despite its importance in God’s agenda include:
I see no need to
I do not wish to
I am afraid to
I do not know how to

By personal soul winning we mean simply telling others of what Jesus Christ means to you.

‘Witnessing is the whole work of the whole church for the whole age’ Dr A.T. Pierson.

‘There is no joy like the joy of saving men , and it is possible for every child of God, no matter how humble, how ungifted, to have this joy.’ R.A. Torrey.

‘If there were only one Christian in the world, and he worked a year, and won a friend to Christ, and if these two continued each year to win another, and if every man thus led into the kingdom of God continued to win another every year – in thirty years or so every person in the world would be won for Christ.’ Students Missionary Conference.
WHY PERSONAL SOUL WINNING IS VERY IMPORTANT

1. IT ESTABLISHES THE CHRISTIAN IN HIS OWN FAITH.

One of the absolute essentials to the establishing of a new convert is that he shall immediately tell others of what he has experienced. To live a victorious Christian life you must tell others of your faith.

2. EVERY CHRISTIAN CAN BE A WITNESS.

All of us cannot operate in the five fold ministry i.e Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers (Eph. 4:11-12), for these are special gifts given by the Lord. Soul winning is not a gift, it is our calling, our responsibility. In fact we are saved to serve, called to confess Christ, won in order that we might become witnesses.

3. WINNING PRODUCES THE MOST PERSONAL SOUL ABUNDANT RESULTS.

It is doubtful if anyone is won for Christ in a public service who has not been first influenced by a personal contact. In fact available statistics prove vast majority of Christians have been won to Christ through personal witness.

4. IT CAN BE DONE ANYWHERE.

Personal soul winning can be practiced anywhere e.g Bus stop, at the beach, restaurant, school etc

5. IT CAN BE DONE ANYTIME.

The person witnessing does not need to wait for a set period during which he may speak to person. It may carried out any time: morning, noon and night.

6. IT CAN REACH ALL CLASSES OF PEOPLE.

We don’t need to feel that certain class of people will be unhappy or unwelcome at our meeting when we speak to them alone. Class, colour creed, it makes no difference, the personal evangelist is able to reach them all. One thing is certain that some people will never come to our church because of their class, colour or creed.

7. IT IS COST EFFECTIVE.

It is a known fact that some types of evangelism are very costly. But personal soul winning may be carried out without any expense.

8. IT IS ABLE TO MEET AND TO SATISFY EVERY SPIRITUAL NEED.
A person may have one problem which years of church services never answer which only a personal conversation can reveal and correct.
