TEXT: IChr.4:9-10

INTRODUCTION

Not much is known of his except what we read in these two (2) verse. But these are enough to mark him out as worthy in no ordinary way of being adnired and initated.

There is so much depth registered in the prayer of this unknown man. – Unknown except for the prayer. Unknown- Nothing is mentioned about his lineage but the unknown carved out his name in gold.

He has become the teacher of the righteoust is every generation. – How? Today the deeds of Jabez is an instruction to us. – A nobody can become a somebody.

In life, there are times certain things happen to us that are not of our own making – Jabez was given name that degraded him and followed him all his life until – he came to the point of DECISION.

Decision – determines destiny (Dan1:8)

It also gives energy (Gen.39:9)

It fueled his prayers

No one knows the circumstance that led to his name but the mother gave him that name – well, we could infer that he had other brethren. If the mother had lived to see her sons how would she have felt about Jabez? (Guilty for not having confidence in God or how false her calculations were?

Jacob said “All these things are against me” – Gen.42:36 – As one trial after the other fell his way – but it was through these dealings that God provided for him and his household.

? As men we give sorrowful titles to that which is designed to benefit us in the end – Judging only by present appearances.

WHAT JABEZ UNDERSTOOD

1) There is only one God- He want to bless us – but we must make the choice of making him first.
2) Stay close to God and rely on his continued support and guidance
3) Jabez was passionate in prayers.

* The boldness of Jabez to ask for something big in prayer is an evidence of his deep relationship with God. He knows what he wanted and prayed accordingly – Prov.28:1
