HONOUR – THE ROAD TO HONOUR (continue)

Text: 1Sam.2:30, Mal.1:6

Prov.4:18.

But the path of the just is like the shining sun,* That shines ever brighter unto the

perfect day.

– Solomon determined – 2Chro.2:1-2

Then Solomon determined to build a temple for the name of the Lord, and a royal house for

himself. 2 Solomon selected seventy thousand men to bear burdens, eighty thousand to quarry

stone in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them.

– Solomon began – 2Chro.3:1-2

Now Solomon began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord*

had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared on the threshing floor

of Ornan* the Jebusite. 2 And he began to build on the second day of the second month in the

fourth year of his reign.

– Diligence accompanied his determination – 1Kings 6:7,

And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that

no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built

Deut.27:5-6

5 And there you shall build an altar to the Lord your God, an altar of stones; you shall not

use an iron tool on them. 6 You shall build with whole stones the altar of the Lord your God,

and offer burnt offerings on it to the Lord your God.

– Solomon finished the building inspite of the cost and work -2Chro.5:1

Now the sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel — he was indeed the firstborn, but because he

defiled his father’s bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Joseph, the son of Israel, so

that the genealogy is not listed according to the birthright;

– Jesus Said – John 4:34,

Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.

17:4-5

4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. 5

And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You

before the world was.

– Paul declared – IITim.4:7-8

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally,

there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will

give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

– Honouring God demands you finish your assignment.

4. HUMILITY COMES BEFORE HONOUR –Prov.15:33

The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, And before honor is humility

Prov.22:4;

4 By humility and the fear of the Lord

Are riches and honor and life.

Lu.18:10-14

10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11

The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men

— extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I

give tithes of all that I possess.’ 13 And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so

much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a

sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for

everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

5. TO RECEIVE HONOUR, YOU MUST GIVE HONOUR – 1Sam.2:30,

Therefore the Lord God of Israel says: ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your

father would walk before Me forever.’ But now the Lord says: ‘Far be it from Me; for those who

honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.

Ezra 7:10

10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord , and to do it, and to teach

statutes and ordinances in Israel.

Then the Lord granted the honour shown him in –vv11-28

6. LET HONOUR COME NATURALLY don’t force it or scheme for it –Prov.25:6-7;

6 Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, And do not stand in the place of the

great; 7 For it is better that he say to you, “Come up here, “Than that you should be put lower

in the presence of the prince,Whom your eyes have seen.

Lu.14:7-11

7 So He told a parable to those who were invited, when He noted how they chose the best places,

saying to them: 8 “When you are invited by anyone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in the

best place, lest one more honorable than you be invited by him; 9 and he who invited you and

him come and say to you, ‘Give place to this man,’ and then you begin with shame to take the

lowest place. 10 But when you are invited, go and sit down in the lowest place, so that when

he who invited you comes he may say to you, ‘Friend, go up higher.’ Then you will have glory in

the presence of those who sit at the table with you. 11 For whoever exalts himself will be

humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

7. HONOUR THE SON – Psm.2:12;

12 Do homage to the Son, lest He become angry, and you perish in the way,

For His wrath may soon be kindled.

How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

(NASB)

John5:22-23

22 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son, 23 that all should

honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the

Father who sent Him.

· Hear His voice – John 5:28-29

28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear

His voice 29 and come forth — those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those

who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

· Obey His voice – Lu.4:46

· Seek to do His will – John 4:34;

Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.

5:30

30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do

not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.

Conclusion

ISam.2:30

30 Therefore the Lord God of Israel says: ‘I said indeed that your house and the house of your

father would walk before Me forever.’ But now the Lord says: ‘Far be it from Me; for those who
