TEXT: Isa.55:11, Heb.4:2
INTRODUCTION
The word of God is powerful, it is full of promises. It has answers for us. It is life; it contains promises of joy, victory and success for you.
Do you know that even though the word is powerful, we can go through live without getting any benefit from it.
3 THINGS WE SEE ABOUT GOD’S WORD – ISA.55:11
It shall not return void – it cannot be wasted, revoked, cancelled, stopped, erase, delete or invalidated. If God said it, it is final.
It accomplishes its purpose:- It can create something out of nothing, make a nobody a somebody, reveal a way out of no way. Restore health, wealth and self esteem .
It shall prosper wherever it finds refuge. To the hungry ‘bread of life, thirsty living water’ e.t.c
How can I go through a live time of hearing the word and it will not benefit us?
God’s word is not going to work because you read it, or memorized it or get a verbal inspiration but it will work if you get it into you, meditate on it.
Heb.4:2 “for indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who hear it”
The word was of no value to them
Why?
Those who heard it did not combine it with faith.
FAITH was the missing ingredient so faith is what makes the word work.
The word has been given to us so that they could benefit us but if not combined with faith it will do us no good.
e.g. Phil.4:19 “My God will supply all your needs…”
All of our needs can be met.
What are your needs?
Basic need
Food
Clothes
Shelter
Other personal needs
Rents
Transportation
Money e.t.c
The verse says God will supply all your needs this can just be mere words or it can be activated with faith to become real in our lives.
Faith releases the power of these words in our lives.
What is faith?
To trust
To persuade
To believe
To obey
Faith is to believe that something is real and act as if it were true.
Very important ACT AS IF IT WERE TRUE
e.g if you believe that a medicine will help you, we will act as if it were so and will take it.
– So as long as faith continues, it gives all the force of reality to that which we believe. We feel and act just as if it were so.
What does it mean to combine the word with faith?
The word ‘combine’ refers to eating
The process by which food is made nutritive by being properly mixed with saliva and the gastric juices and then going into the digestive system and being changed into blood.
If the word is mixed, combined and united with our faith, it becomes the means of spiritual life and support for us. And through this we can experience joy and success.
Example of eating fruit
You take a bite and chew it up. The saliva mixes with it and it starts breaking down. You swallow it and it goes into your digestive System where it is broken down. It is absorbed into the blood stream and it becomes nourishment to your body.
Just like this food becomes a part of the body and supports it, the word of God when it is activated by faith becomes a part of our internal and spiritual man and gives it support and life.
Now if you just let the fruit in the bowl it will be of no use to the body it has to be mixed.
Faith has to be combined with the word so that we can use it.
Application
Phil. 4:19
We add our faith by meditating on it, thinking about the power of God. Remembering that he is good, honest and true.
We say to our selves, God said it. I believe God tells me the truth. I believe this word applies to me and my situation and because of this I know God will meet my need. I don’t have to worry or fear because God will meet my need.
This is how we add faith – the word becomes activated is our lives. Faith is the activator that makes it real to us. We believe it because God said it.
So when you ACT FAITH, God brings results.
The more your faith grows, the more you will see God’s word working in your life. Doing what it says it will do.
God’s word is meant to be powerful in your life. But it requires something on your part.
You need to
Hear it
Believe it
Act it – saying it.
There are two parts to working the word
Confession
Prayer – So that the word is not delayed or prolonged. e.g. Daniel
Simeon
Anna.
In every conflict you face always put your mouth to work
In working the word
Always know that you can have what you say. So don’t say what you have.
i.e Confess victory is the face of apparent defeat confess abundance in the face of apparent lack.
